The Colombian has not only become one of the most successful singers in Hispanic music, but also an exponent of fashion, especially when it comes to breaking schemes and stereotypes.

J Balvin once again demonstrated that when it comes to fashion he should be in the spotlight. This August 1, the singer received the Global Fashion Icon award during the annual ACE Awards gala, held in New York.

The Colombian has not only become one of the most successful artists in Hispanic music, but also an exponent of fashion, especially when it comes to breaking schemes and stereotypes.

The news was made known to his followers on his Instagram account: “Yesterday we won the Global Fashion Icon award. Fashion is another form of expression and one of my great passions”.

J Balvin highlighted that “this award has been received by greats of my role models in fashion such as Kanye West, Lady Gaga, etc… Now it’s our turn, a man from Medellín with global dreams.”

The singer dedicated the award to his hometown, to his land, but assured that this recognition “is not for J Balvin, this is for us Latinos, to continue elevating ourselves.”

During the gala, J Balvin shared a few words with those present, in which he began by talking about his country: “I am very honored and grateful to be here. I shouldn’t be here, but life is amazing because I come from Medellin, Colombia, one of the cities that used to be one of the most dangerous in the world and is now the third most important city on the planet, and I’m very, very grateful for that.”

“I come from a place that used to be dark and is now full of colors and joy. That’s why I’m proud to be Latino and to be here,” said the interpreter of “Sigue” and “Forever my love.”

The moment of receiving the award was also an opportunity to talk about the premises that he maintains in his life: “I have always liked to express myself in different ways specifically with the culture, it is not only about me, but about all Latinos and how can we validate ourselves, and for that thank you because you believe in me, sorry for being difficult to bear, it has all been worth it.

J Balvin believes that “fashion is a way of talking about yourself, without necessarily having to talk”, and at the same time it is a way of “feeling good, safe and comfortable with what you are wearing”.

At the ACE Awards gala, J Balvin attended wearing a Dior pajama set in different shades of purple, with a hat and bag to complete the look in which he did not abandon his eccentric style.

The singer also announced that on September 15 he will launch a new Air Jordan 2 collection. The sneakers that simulate the blue sky and include LED lights will first arrive in his beloved Medellin.

Although on previous occasions many have called him eccentric, J Balvin does not hesitate to see fashion as a form of expression. He has defended, for example, that men can wear skirts and even paint their nails, and the latter is considered an act of personality.
